Abstract : Simulated photographs show where an FFAR dispersion pattern 5 mils in diameter will strike a target for various values of present and future range, present target angle, aircraft loading, and angle of attack when the 3-gyro rocket sight is used. The 3-gyro rocket sight configuration utilizes 3 single-degree-of-freedom gyros for angular velocity measurement to correct for target motion and cross roll; one 2-degrees-of-freedom gyro for determination of the vertical for gravity drop correction; and an angle-of-attack measuring device to correct for velocity jump. The performance represented by the pictures is valid if the pip is held on the center of the target, tracking is smooth and continuous, the aircraft is flown without sip or skid radar ranging is continuous and accurate, the effect system dispersion is not considered, the angle-of-attack measurement is accurate, the propellant temperature is 40 F, the rocket is fired from a 48-in. open-end launcher tube, and the target flies in a constant-sped horizontal course.
