Abstract : Research is continuing on the generation of HF's pertaining to 22-vane magnetrons at 2.5 mm (RPB6), 22-vane magnetrons at 3 mm (RPB3), 22-vane magnetrons at 4.3 mm (RPB8), 22-vane high-power magnetrons at 6 mm (RPB7), 34-vane quasi-CW magnetrons at 1.06 cm (CW10), a magnetron space-charge experiment, crown of thorns tuning of rising-sun magnetrons, low field operation of magnetrons, generation of millimeter waves by Cerenkov radiation, and a molecular-beam oscillator. Microwave apparatus and techniques are discussed with respect to millimeter wavemeters, crystal harmonic generators, magnetron harmonics, and pulsed operation of klystrons. Microwave physics studies are reported which include hyperfine structure of the H atom, fine structure of singly ionized He, nuclear quadrupole resonant lines, very high temperature microwave spectroscopy, high-resolution spectrometer, free radical experiment, structure of HNCS from microwave spectra, molecular quadrupole coupling of S33, magnetic resonance absorption at millimeter wave lengths, microwave spectra by molecular-beam electric-resonance method, polymeric content of alkali halide beams, the microwave spectrum of DI at 1.5 mm wave length, and superconductive surface resistance at millimeter wave lengths. Electronic apparatus and techniques and tube fabrication techniques are also described. (See also AD-12 359)
