Abstract : The basic flow problems considered are: acceleration (or retardation) of turbulent flow in a straight duct; the flow in a 2dimenensional, curved duct and the flow in a space of revolution with uniformity of the mean flow in peripheral directions; boundarylayer flow in a space of revolution with different characteristics of this flow in the peripheral and meridional directions; behavior of a circumferential nonuniformity in a space of revolution with rotation of the flow about the axis of symmetry; and unsteady interaction of 2 circumferential nonuniformities as well as a multiplicity of circumferential nonuniformities having different rates of rotation in a space of revolution. Experimental flow configurations are presented which range from a straight, 2dimensional, diverging duet and a curved duct to a single stage axialflow test blower with spanwise nonuniform blade circulations. Disscussions are included on (1) the 3dimensional theory of frictionless flow in turbomachinery and (2) the application of the statistical theory of turbulence to the flow in turbomachinery.
