Abstract : The patent describes silicone fluids containing a small amount of alkali metal salt of trifluoroacetic acid which have reduced tendency to form gelatinous solids as they decompose at high temperature. The function of said metal salt is improved by the addition of a small amount of sodium hydroxide. Such fluids are commonly used as hydraulic fluids and lubricating oils in ship and aircraft mechanisms where extremes in temperature are common.
