Abstract : The patent describes an aircraft cockpit display system for indicating whether the aircraft is above, below, within or adjacent to a preset altitude corridor. The binary coded decimal output of an altitude reporting encoder is combined with a signal indicative of the assigned altitude preselected by thumbwheel switches. The computed deviation from the command altitude is compared to a similarly selected deviation setting. A deviation detection logic unit provides output signals to shape-coded, lightable indicators advising the pilot to descend or climb to the flight corridor, if necessary. A proximity detection logic unit receives signals from the deviation detection logic unit and an adjustable proximity range selector indicative of proximity zones above and below the flight corridor to drive an indicator and audio beeper to alert the pilot of approaches to and departures from the flight corridor.
