Abstract : The patent describes a method of making permanent magnets comprising the steps of pulverizing an alloy consisting of (a) selected rare earth metals and (b) cobalt (or mixtures of Co with Fe and Mn). It is characterized by high crystal anisatropy in specific atomic percent ratios, mixing the pulverized alloy with a binding agent, subjecting said powder to a magnetic field of sufficient magnitude so as to align the alloy particles with their direction of easiest magnetization parallel to the applied magnetic field, and thereafter permanently bonding together the aligned powdered alloy, and the article resulting therefrom.
