Abstract : Samples of 27 (7 toroidal and 20 magnetic C) core types made from 5 magnetic materials of 4 different widths and varying in thickness from 0.002 to 0.008 in. were subjected to aging cycles of about 2500 hr at 350 and 600 degrees C. The relative changes in core loss and ampere-turns per in. plotted versus aging in weeks are pre(over) sented. The magnetic materials consisted of oriented Si-Fe, 3.5% Si-Fe, Co-Fe (Hiperco 27 and Hiperco 35), and 12% Al-Fe alloys. Cores which were aged at 600 degrees C showed greater changes in electrical properties than those aged at 350 degrees C. There was a great deal of variability in the response of the properties of the different core types to aging. In general, the Co-Fe alloys were the most stable. The Si-Fe cores were mostly affected by aging at 600 degree C, while some of the 12% Al-Fe cores were improved by exposure the 350- and 600-degree C temperatures. For the majority of the cores electrical tests and visual inspection indicated no gross changes of geometry during aging at elevated temperatures.
