Abstract : A CASE OF STRONG DIABATIC COOLING OVER THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS IS DESCRIBED. IT CAUSES THE FORMATION OF A STRONG ANTICYCLONE OVER, AND THE ORIGIN OF A HIGH-LEVEL CYCLONE EAST TO THE MOUNTAINS. THE RATE OF COOLING IS SO STRONG THAT IT CAN NOT BE EXPLAINED BY THE PRESENTLY KNOWN THEORIES.
