Abstract : A SCORING SYSTEM WAS PRODUCED WHICH REFLECTS VARIATION IN FAILURE EXPERIENCE AND PERMITS INTERPRETATION AS A MEASURE OF FEAR OF FAILURE. THE SYSTEM IS CALLED THE HOSTILE PRESS SYSTEM BECAUSE THE THEMA SCORED EMPHASIZE THE REACTIONS OF STORY FIGURES TO THREATENING PRESS. TWO CROSS-VALIDATIONS OF THE SYSTEM WERE OBTAINED. ONE EXPERIMENT DESIGNED TO REPLICATE THE ORIGINAL SOURCE EXPERIMENT FAILED TO DO SO FOR REASONS DISCUSSED IN THIS REPORT. ADDITIONAL STUDIES OF OTHER SCORING POSSIBILITIES WERE CARRIED OUT AS WELL AS FURTHER EFFORTS TO LEARN MORE OF THE LEVEL OF ASPIRATION MEASURE. THIS REPORT CONTAINS THE INITIAL LEVEL OF ASPIRATION EXPERIMENT, THE HOSTILE PRESS SCORING SYSTEM, AND THE FURTHER EXPLORATION OF THE LEVEL OF ASPIRATION DEVICE
