Abstract : The feasibility of the vibratory method of driving piles was investigated. It is known that vibratory pile driving devices have been used successfully in the Soviet Union and that this technique is claimed, by many authorities, to be more efficient than the more conventional means of pile driving. The investigation included liaison with United States firms engaged in developmental work in vibratory pile driving, a literature search for authoritative information in this field and the preparation of a bibliography. Since vibratory pile driving devices may have advantages over conventional equipment, it is recommended that the Laboratory continue its investigation of the vibratory pile driving concept. (Author)
