Abstract : The purpose of this research was to investigate means of heating, accelerating, and channeling plasma jets by means of magnetic fields. The following investigations were performed: (1) Transient Electrodeless Discharge Experiments; (2) Steady-state Plasma Channelling Experiments; (3) The Punch Method of Compressing, Heating, and Confining a Plasma; (4) Relaxation Heating of a Plasma by Surface Interaction with a Magnetic Field; (5) Experiments on the Punch Method of Heating; (6) Propulsion Experiments with the Asymmetric Punch; (7) Magnetohydrodynamic Shear Heating; (8) The Two-Coil Induction Method of Measuring Conductivity; and (9) MHD Channel Flow of a Rotating F LUID.
