Abstract : The plane stress field in an infinite elastic plate bounded by the branches of a hyperbola is analyzed using the two-dimensional mathematical theory of elasticity. The equilibrium and compatibility equations of the mathematical theory of elasticity are formally satisfied by means of a biharmonic stress function. Lacking methods based on orthogonality, a method of successive approximations, utilizing stress function superposition techniques, is developedAND USED FOR OBTAINING THE BODY STRESS DISTRIBUTION FOR PRESCRIBED BOUNDARY CONDITIONS.
