Abstract : A matrix with real elements is called powerpositive if a power of it is positive. It is shown that the most important properties of the characteristic roots of positive matrices also hold for powerpositive matrices. In particular, the absolute greatest root of a powerpositive matrix can be computed as exactly as needed without finding the characteristic equation. (Author)
