Abstract : Catalytic improvement of the properties of cracked kerosene is recommended on the basis of laboratory and pilot-plant studies. Cracked kerosene, which boils between 174 and 300 C and which contains a high percentage of unstable hydrocarbons can be converted into a diesel fuel. The fuel meets the requirements of Soviet stand-ARDS, EXCEPT FOR ITS LOW FLASH POINT OF 28 C (a minimum of 35 C is required). The flash point can be raised by distilling off the head fraction to 165 C. The suggested treatment consists in heating the cracked product to 260-300 C over an alumosilicate catalyst. For a continuous process the use of a fluidized bed is recommended. (Author)
