Abstract : The preceived absolute distance of binocularly observed objects as a function of convergence was measured by having subjects judge the distance of the binocular objects with respect to a monocularly observed alley containing adequate distance cues. It was found that the ability to perceive changes in distance with convergence was not improved by using several rather than a single binocular object. Also, the relation between perceived distance and convergence for a binocular object when this did occur was not independent of the presence of the other binocular objects in the configuration.
