Abstract : Silver single crystals having (100), (110) and (111) orientations were heated to 750 C in a vacuum of about 1/100,000 to 10 to the -6th power mm of Hg. The density of the thermal etch pits which resulted agreed with the estimate of the dislocation density as obtained with the Lambot X-ray method. The formation of these relatively sharp thermal etch pits is interpreted as being a result of the low undersaturation of Ag vapor and the presence of impurities. (Author)
