Abstract : A study is made of one of the physical processes capable of driving and sustaining acoustic resonance in a thrust chamber, namely a pressure sensitive heat release rate. Approximate conditions are obtained on the pressure exponent n to produce decay or growth of the initial pressure disturbance. The nonlinear equations for a nonviscous compressible fluid are then solved to a second order approximation for the special case n equals 1. Results indicate growth of the pressure wave for this value of n. (Author)
