Abstract : A study of an air weather reconnaissance system undertaken by Bendix required considering the device as a whole as being composed of several main parts, each having its own failure and repair parameters. When any single part failed the whole system was considered to be in a failed state. It was desired to determine just how these parts would interact statistically to effect the total expected operating time of the entire system. The need for a generalization to a system with n parts with different failure and repair parameters prompted the detailed study expounded. (Author)
