Abstract : As an experiment in stratified climatology, height difference and geostrophic vorticity were tested as predictors for the 300-mb geostrophic winds over eastern Europe. Eight years of winter season data (1950-1957) and data for March 1958 were used. Forecasts using stratified data were compared with those of unstratified climatology. Certain stratifications showed significant improvement over climatology. (Author)
