Abstract : The most likely areas of utility for 3-D displays in such a system would be in threat evaluation and weapon assignment operations. Although a categorical statement cannot be made that 3-D displays are good or bad for such application, this report stresses the following considerations: (1) The need for definition of the operational requirement for such a display. Interested human factors specialists should take the initiative in seeking such a definition. This step is a prerequisite to determining the utility of these indicators. (2) The possible advantages of 3-D indicators. (3) The read-out problems facing the operator using such a display. (4) The instrumentation problems imposed by such displays. (Author)
