Abstract : Values of VLF field strength in the Arctic Ocean obtained experimentally with an AN/URM-6B receiver and a loop antenna are compared with values computed from temperature and salinity data. The comparison indicates that temperatureAND SALINITY DATA PROVIDE SUFFICIENT INFORMATION FOR THE CALCULATION OF CONDUCTIVITY IN SEA WATER AND THEREFORE FOR THE CALCULATION OF THE ATTENUATION OF RADIO WAVES IN SEA WATER. The experimental data indicate no attenuation of the radio wave in passing through the ice cover. (Author)
