A stationary flight simulator study was made of the primary factors which affect pilot opinion of the lateral-directional stability of contemporaryAIRCRAFT. The results indicate that the degree of acceptability of the lateral-directional characteristics of any aircraft can be predicted for a wide range of configurations by use of two correlation parameters. One parameter specifies the minimum required damping of the lateral oscillation, and the other specifies the maximum allowable lateral control yawing moment. (Author)
