Abstract : The potential problem of a sphere located at the center of an infinitely long circular cylinder is considered. Specific problems treated are: heat conduction with variable prescribed surface temperatures, convective heat transfer at the boundaries having variable temperatures, heat conduction with prescribed heat flux on the surface of sphere, and incompressible potential flow past the sphere inside a cylindrical duct. The solution for the velocity potential is used to determine the virtual mass of a sphere moving inside the cylindrical duct. (Author)
