Abstract : The technology of ozone research is detailed for the neophyte in this field. A method for construction of an ozonator is described. The instrument is calibrated in terms of relation of primary to secondary voltage, relation of electrical input and oxygen flow rate to ozone production, and reproducibility. The defects inherent in such an instrument are noted. Auxiliary equipment and technics required during ozonization are mentioned. A comparative evaluation of several dispersion devices for gas absorption bottles is reported. The Allihn bell-bubbler type of absorber is recommended. Chemical methods for the analyses of ozone in either the gas or liquid phases are reviewed. A comparison of methods for the analyses of ozone in the gas phase reveals that multiplication of the spectrophotometric results by the factor 1.6 brings this analytic method into approximate agreement with the titrimetric method. Finally, ome kinetic data on ozone in aqueous solutions are reported. The latter studies include decomposition of ozone in aqueous solutions, effect of dilution on ozonated-water solutions, and use of different absorbing media for ozone. (Author)
