Abstract : An analysis of the Junghans spring was extended from the usual linear relations to examination of the nonlinear limitations. Large deflections of a cantilever beam, with a concentrated end load perpendicular to the beam, form the basis of the analysis. The spring constant (restoring torque vs. angular deflections) for various arbor/length ratios is calculated in dimensionless form and plotted as a function of angular deflection. (Author)
