Abstract : The circulation of a hotwater heating system is calculated. The system consists of an annular hotwater heating pipe installed in a gravitational field. The lower section of the pipe contains a heater which releases a known amount of heat per unit time per unit crosssection area. For circulation to occur, the heater must: either be shifted somewhat to one side of the symmetry plane, or release more heat in one direction than in the other. The problem is treated by means of the 4 equations involved in the flow and heating of the liquid: continuity equation, momentum equation, expansion equation, and the heattransfer equation. (Author)
