USSR.A reactor with an outer controlrod zone can be designed in such a way that a long life span can be achieved. In a given reactor capacity of 20 Mw the change in time of the controlrod position in the critical stage is investigated, giving due consideration to burnup, poisoning, and conversion. The calculation of the behavior in time was first made within the scope of a modified onegroup theory and then in the scope of a threegroup theory. It was established that the modified onegroup theory is useless for longterm calculations. The advantage of this reactor is the high degree of conversion in the outer zone. (Author)
