Abstract : The salivary component which produces the absorption peak at 12 microns in the infrared spectrum appeared to be a product of the salivary glands. This factor was found in parotid and submaxillary saliva of both caries-immune and caries-susceptible individuals. The component disappeared in the whole saliva of certain caries-susceptible individuals and was not demonstrable in dental plaque, either f caries-immune or cariessusceptible subjects. (Author)
