Abstract : Pittsburgh U., Pa. PERCEIVED ECONOMIC AN ILITARY STRENGTH OF NATIONS. Rept. on Project Outcomes, by Stanley E S HIVELY. F B ><, %$P. INCL. TABLES. (Contract AF 49(638)1116) (AFOSR-1915)Unclassified report DESCRIPTORS: (*Economics, Indus rial produc tion, Armies, USSR.) (Public opinion, Attitudes, Analysis.) Ide tifiers: Outcomes project. The distribution of economic and military pow r in the world at the present time and the predicted power distribution five years he ce were investigated. Samples of legislators nd students from s ven countries were interviewed. The major findings are that the United States is pictured s being the strongest nation in the world at the present time in respect to economic strength, and it is expected to also remain strongest five years from now; the Soviet Union is believed to be the second strongest nation at the present time with respect to economic strength and it is expected to also be the second strongest during the next five years; however, the United States is pictured as relatively decreasing in its economic lead uring the next five years. The students place the Soviet Union as the strongest military power, both at the pr ent time and five years hence, and the United States as the second strongest. Legisla ors, on the other hand, tend to believe that the United States is the strongest military power both at the present time and in five years, the Soviet U ion being the second strongest.
