Abstract : Space vehicles fastened to their launching pads are vulnerable to damage by wind induced oscillations caused by vortex shedding. At supercritical Reynolds numbers vertex shedding is aperiodic. This can cause large bending moments. The reliable prediction of damaging wind loads on guided missiles in vertical positions on the ground requires experimental data taken at very high Reynolds numbers; this data does not exist. Items were selected for inclusion on the basis of whether they were of importance for background, timeliness, direct application, or close relation, and as to whether an item might be a key to related literature.
