Abstract : The over-all problem of controlling internal radiation exposure resulting from the ingestion of water contaminated by fallout in wartime is discussed. The limitations of maximum permissible concentration concepts in areas where fallout contamination levels are high are discussed and simplified methods of computing the internal dose are prese ted. To facilitate the interpretation of such information, the ''committed dose'' concept is introduced and its proposed use is described. A brief discussion of the significance of the hazards of fallout-contaminated water supplies relative to other hazards in the nuclear-war situation is presented. (Author)
