Abstract : A circuit technique is described for eliminating the one cycle uncertainty that normally exists in a time interval measurement made by counting the number of cycles of a crystal oscillator that occur between start and stop pulses. A high frequency crystal oscillator is used in conjunction with a gatable frequency dividing circuit (describe in detail) to yield a train of highly stable timing pulses that begins in phase with the start pulse. The technique is useful in the frequency range from one to several hundred Mc, and can be extended above 1 kMc. (Author)
