Abstract : Considerable progress was made toward the development of a simple and rapid instrumental method for the determination of oxygen in organic compounds containing nitrogen, sulfur and halogens. Several approaches to the problem were studied extensively and experimental equipment based on the most promising approaches was fabricated. Analytical results obtained are reported on samples ranging up to 5 mg in size, containing from 11 to 76% oxygen. An instrument based on the ter Meulen method is essentially automatic in operation, including a system for signal integration and readout. A second approach to the problem, embodying a gas chromatograph, was assembled recently and is still in the process of evaluation. (Author)
