Abstract : Cables of the order of a few centimeters in diameter, moving in water, and having an average density of 1 to 8 gm/cc are considered. The speed of motion will be taken in the range of 50-500 cm/sec. For a kinematic viscosity of 1/100 sq cm/sec, appropriate for water, the diameter Reynolds number R is in the range 10,000 to 100,000. Vortex shedding may be expected to be the principal source of vibration transmission. (Author)
