Abstract : Atomic and electronic collision processes related to the study of the upper atmosphere are treated. There is particular emphasis on processes producing visible radiation. The problems studied are in three groups: (1) investigation of excitation by electron, ion, and atom impact; (2) study of reactions which ions and molecules in excited states may undergo; and (3) field study of fluctuations in auroral light.
