Abstract : The development and testing of a ground elevation meter--a four-wheel-drive, four-wheel-steer vehicle equipped with a fifth heel for measuring distance and a pendulum for determining slope is discussed. The distance and slope i formation is automatically fed into an electronic computer which integrates the information to provide ground elevations. Engineering tests were conducted in northern Virginia to determine the suitability of the meter for establishing elevations in the Artillery Survey System 40- by 40-mile area and for o her possible Corps of Engineers and Army applications.
