Abstract : IT IS SHOWN THAT, WHEN AN IONOSPHERIC SOUNDER OF A GREAT SENSITIVITY IS PLACED AT A DISTANCE FROM THE SEA LESS THAN 50 KM, IT IS VERY LIKELY THAT THE STRONG BACKSCATTER FROM THE OPEN SEA WAVES AHAT WHEN AN IONOSPHERIC SOUNDER IS PLACED AT A DISTANCE FROM THE SEA LESS THAN 50 KM., THE STRONG BACKSCATTER FROM THE OPEN SEA WAVES A D FROM THE COASTAL SEA WAVES PRODUCES DISCRETE ECHOES WHICH MAY BE ERRONEOUSLY ATTRIBUTED TO MESOSPHERIC REFLECTIONS.AD-2779d from the coastal sea waves produces discrete echoes, which may be erroneously attributed to mesospheric reflections.
