Abstract : A preliminary calibra ion of the combustion calorimeter for gaseous components was completed with H and O employed as the reactants. No combustion reaction was achieved with either NO2F or NO3F, with H as the fuel, and using hot wire and spark ignition. At low mole fractions of H, NO3F appears to undergo a complex decomposition when sparked. A detailed study of the synthesis if ClO4F was conducted to establish the optimum reaction conditions to permit accurate calorimetric determinations of the heat of reaction in order to obtain reliable heats of formation. Preliminary studies of the synthesis of additional O-F bonded materials were initiated. The compounds F5SOF, FSO3F, and CF3OF are of interest in determining the effect of substituents on O-F bond strengths. (Author)
