Abstract : The temperature compensation for the mercury-inrubber strain gauge by a copper wire was examined. It was found that the influence of a temperature change on the resistance of the mercury-in-rubber strain gauge can be adequately compensated for by a fine copper wire. A transient imbalance of the gauge circuit cannot be avoided after he exposure to abrupt temperature change. With he copper compensation wire described, the effect of a slow, irregular temperature change on the resistance of the gauge can be eliminated. The addition of the rubber tube as insulation markedly improves the timecourse compensation with abrupt temperature changes. (Author)
