Abstract : A study of the effects of temperature on oxygen uptake and generation times of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus was carried out. The results indicate that oxygen uptake varies directly with temperature and still occurs although no measurable growth takes place. The generation times of the agents appear to be independent of temperature between 25 and 37 C butARE TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENT AT VALUES BELOW 25 C. The main effect of lower temperatures on growth rates appears to be that of increasing the lag phase. (Author)
