Abstract : Literature on the problem of frequency independent antennas is reviewed. The main idea suggested was the relaxation of the similarity condition on the rigorous angular structures. The construction of polygonal spiral antennas is given in terms of the construction of the polygonal spiral curve. Through the construction the relation between the structure with the continuous similarity condition and that with discrete similarity condition is demonstrated. Experimental methods were used in determining the applicability of the polygonal spiral structure for the use of the frequency independent antenna. Measurement results showed that the rectangular spiral antenna is a good approximation to the logspiral antenna, for two equivalent antennas of these types behave practically the same, as far as the frequency independent operation is concerned. Measurements were also made of a bifilar logperiodic zigzag antenna, a special case of the polygonal spiral antenna. (Author)
