Abstract : The formation and properties of a type of hexagonal network in thin crystals of cadmium are described. The networks appear almost immediately after the disappearance of vacancy-type loops introduced by bombarding the crystals with negative ions in the electron microscope. They lie in basal planes and the directions of the three sets of intersecting lines are parallel to the (1100) directions in these planes. Mobile specks which are attributed to clusters of interstitial atoms have also been observed. (Author)
