Abstract : A survey was made which indicates that U. S. industry is increasingly dependent upon foreign sources of raw materials. Many of the primary producing countries are located in the underdeveloped regions of the world, thousands of miles from the United States, and surface shipping affords the principal means of commerce with these areas. These raw materials and the ability to import them are important elements of our national strength. (Author)
