Abstract : A recent theory of lothe and Pound indicates that appreciable entropies of formation of embryos markedly affect homogeneous nucleation from the vapor phase. Similar constraints are considered here for nucleation on substrates, using a statistical development of a nucleation rate expression. It is shown that nucleation may be very dependent on surface contributions to the entropy of formation of a nucleus. (Author)
