Abstract : Based on the linear stress-strain relations of classical elasticity and the analogy between creep and nonlinear elasticity, a creep law governing the behavior of compressible materials is formulated. The strain and complementary energy functions associated with the analogous elastic law are developed. Finally the nonlinear elastic law is used in deriving the moment-curvature relations governing the lateral bending of thin plates. (Author)
