Abstract : T R NGTH OF GEOMETRIC SOLUTIONS FOR THE RELATIV POSITION OF A SE OF BASE STATIONS USING OBSERVATIONS OF A SATELLITE IS EXAMINED. Th stations are a base to which new stations can be tied relatively easily. Each tellite position is observ from all the base stations. The observations considered are ranges from the stations to satellite positions r nge diff rences to succ iv t lli e po itio in each pass, and optical determinations of the directions of the sight lines. It is discovered that th range and range difference methods are indeterminate for coplanar stations. Ho ver for the four station configuration valuated e small deviations from coplan rity sufficed to give rather good strength. The four stations correspond to a Project NNA ''c libra io configuration an are roughly in a s u r 750 kilometers on a side. The standard deviations for them under our assumptions are found to be under 19 cen imet rs from range observations 14 meter from r ng difference observ tions, and 4 meters from optical observations.
