Abstract : The thermodynamics and electrolytic characteristics are discussed of an SO2-SO3 regenerative, closed-cycle fuel cell, and summarizes the electrolytic, electrochemical, and phase separation research conducted during a study program to determine the practicability of such a fuel cell. The experimental results obtained were at such wide variance with the theoretical concept that it became apparent that a fuel cell of this type is not feasible. (Author)
