Abstract : Three XM-31 motor case assemblies were subjected to pressure cycling tests. One unit had been previously static fired at a conditioning temperature of 130 F, one had been subjected to three static firings at -40 F, and one was a new motor case. The tests were conducted to determine the feasibility of subjecting static fired XM-31 motor cases to additional firings. Extensive instrumentation was used to determine whether any dimensional changes would occur and, if so, the number of pressure cycles required to cause these changes. The tests proved that static fired units are structurally satisfactory for flight use, and can be hydrostatically proof-tested many times with no adverse effects. (Author)
