Abstract : Poor intercoat and system adhesion of epoxy and acrylic ni rocellulose systems is caused by application of the wash primer under low humidity conditions. The addition of water to the diluent portion of the wash primer upgrades the adhesion to the level obtained by application of the wash primer under normal relative humidity conditions. Water may be added to wash primers prepared from ethyl alcohol but gelatio will be ncountered in wash primers containing isopropyl alcohol. The temperature and humidity level must be checked before application of the wash primer, to avoid poor intercoat adhesion due to low humidity. At present there is no known detectable change in physical appearance or solvent resistance of the applied wash primer film. (Author)
