Abstract : Iden ifiers: Solar wind. The most general form of hydromagnetic KelvinHelmholt discontinuity in ideal incompressible fluids was considered. The stability of the hydromagnetic flow of two uniform infinite streams with planar interface exhibiting this type of discontinuity was analyzed in detail. Necessary criteri for it stability were obtained. A disturbance of the table in erface propagates as hydromagnetic surface waves. Inst bility of the interface leads to gro ing surface waves A new theory is developed of geom gnetic micropulsations, in which the solar wind-exosphere int rface is viewed as a surface of hydromag etic Kelvin-Helmholtz discontinuity. The sunlit side of this interface is unstable under most condi ions of solar activity. In the cour e of this work, a critical examination of the ingle fluid approximations of the plasma equations was made. A rigorous derivatio of the boundary conditions in an ideal incompressible hydromagnetic fluid is given. (Author)
